The End of History

2 minutes read time

Francis Fukuyama wrote a book, The End of History and the Last Man". Many have lifted the phrase, "The end of History" and applied it any number of ways, especially since 9/11.

In a piece in Haaretz he explains what he did, and did not, mean.  Specifically he did not mean his thesis to be used to explain or justify current American foreign policy.  What he does mean is rather interesting for those of us who keep an eye on Europe. Here is the money paragraph:

The "End of History" was never linked to a specifically American model of social or political organization. Following Alexandre Kojeve, the Russian-French philosopher who inspired my original argument, I believe that the European Union more accurately reflects what the world will look like at the end of history than the contemporary United States. The EU's attempt to transcend sovereignty and traditional power politics by establishing a transnational rule of law is much more in line with a "post-historical" world than the Americans' continuing belief in God, national sovereignty and their military.

Bible prophecy shows what will be found at "the end of history" will indeed be a a system with an overarching "transnational rule of law". But there will be a spiritual component energizing this system to its fullest degree. Revelation 13 describes a political and religious combine, each headed by two personalities. The second performs miracles to cause the world to worship the first. Some form of religous.spiritual awakening will take place that will bring this system to life. It will astound the world and put to rest any arguments about religion, at least for a short time.

Fukiyama's comment does point us to a part of the picture at "the end of history".
