France Risks 'Exile'

The world has been watching the election of the new pope. Now that is over and the crowds have dispersed. But another election takes place on May 29 but don't look for it to receive as much media attention.. France will be the first European nation to vote on the proposed constitution that will govern the growing political and economic union in the heart of the continent. Polls consistently show between 53-55% of the populace would vote against acceptance of the treaty. The issues swirling in France have a mix of anger against corruption in the Chirac government and distaste for the form of the constitution. It seems likely voters will reject the constitution as much as a statement against their government. The result could create a crisis resulting in the arrangement.

Darris McNeely is a retired elder in the United Church of God. He and his wife, Debbie,  have served in the ministry for more than 53 years. They have two sons, who are both married, and four grandchildren. Darris continues teaching at Ambassador Bible Center and is a member of the Council of Elders.
