The Queen

1 minute read time

Helen Mirren looks like the real Queen Elizabeth. You have to keep telling yourself that you are watching an actress play the queen. The movie tries to give you the story of how the royals and the government handled the tragedy of Princess Diana's death that night in Paris in August 1997.

I don't know where fact morphed into fiction in the movie. But what it did show was the power and influence of the monarchy in Britain. Times have changed and the monarchy had to change during that long week leading to the funeral of Diana. To survive the monarchy has changed down through the century and will no doubt change more in the future.

My friend Melvin Rhodes has always told me about the importance of the role of the monarchy to England. This movie gave me a bit more insight into that reality. I recommend the movie and hope you enjoy it.
