Report Blames Olmert

1 minute read time

Israel's Winograd Committee released its report on the country's 2006 conflict with Hezbollah, charging that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert entered the summer 2006 Israel-Hezbollah conflict without a plan and subsequently "bears supreme and comprehensive responsibility" for the conflict. Defense Minister Amir Peretz was also faulted for being unaware of how prepared the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were when the conflict began. Former IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz was cited for failing to inform political leaders of the IDF's strength.

You can read the report here.

Israel's security in the Middle East will likely be tested again, and very soon by some accounts. Some observers feel this summer may see another round in this same war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Hezbollah has rearmed itself since last summer and is prepared for another offensive.

We will have an article on Iran and its strategy against Israel in the May issue of WNP, due on this site Thursday.
