Blessings in Disguise

1 minute read time

A blessing in disguise can be an exciting discovery.

Most people who pray turn to God with their needs and wishes or wants. We want to be healed of illness, given a good job, do well on an exam and have a great mate, home and just about everything else.

Somehow it is our personal need that not only becomes important, but also is our measure of whether or not we consider ourselves blessed. The fact is that we often neither know what to ask for or how to ask. But we can learn. Blessings are given by a loving Father, when they are good for us. If something is not good, He would be remiss in giving (Luke 11:11-13).

One great example of asking for the right gift from God—and receiving that plus bonus gifts—can be found in the prayer of Solomon (1 Kings 3:9-13). He asked for wisdom from God and nothing for himself.

Some might say, “If this is a blessing, it certainly is well disguised.” The problem often lies with our eyesight, not the blessing. Learning to count blessings the right way—to recognize them—is revealing.
