Braying Loudly

1 minute read time

Most of us have a tendency to shout right back at someone who is shouting at us.

In times of stress, it seems to be the weapon of choice. But a wise person will maintain control of the situation and not resort to a shouting match. As George Herbert wrote, "If a donkey bray at you, don't bray at him."

God inspired different words that carry the same meaning in Proverbs 26:4. "Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him." Shouting, screaming and braying right back only shows a lack of control and wisdom. Braying like a donkey is a sound that cannot be mistaken for the hoot of a wise owl. Men who shout soon lose the respect of those around them. Men who are men exhibit self-control.
