The Burden of Worry

1 minute read time

"I've suffered a great many catastrophes in my life. Most of them never happened,” wrote American wit Mark Twain. How many nights have we lain awake worrying about an event or a problem? The event will pass, whether we worry or not.

We often make a lot more of our problems than they are worth. It is not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it. Instead of trying to solve your own problems, look to God, acknowledge Him, allow Him to lead you. It is truly amazing how your burdens are lifted once you let Him carry them.

All too often, we hamper our own efforts by developing a mind-set that hinders initiative and creative thinking. We cross many terrifying bridges that really do not exist—long before we even arrive on the scene. The Bible tells us that today's problems are sufficient and, although we are to plan and prepare for tomorrow, today is where we should focus our attention (Matthew 6:34).
