Desperate

Most people on earth seem to live day-to-day. Long-range planning and forethought for the future is not the main topic of conversation. As Henry David Thoreau noted, most men "lead lives of quiet desperation."
Circumstances may prevent progress, but generally it is more a matter of choice than of chance. God gave humans the ability to observe. We should not live on the brink of desperation. Proverbs 6:6-11 tells us to be like the ants who prepare for the future. If we do not, it concludes, our need will arise like an armed man. That is desperation. Steady and consistent effort and planning leads to a peaceful life. It takes planning and work to stay away from the edge.
