Keep the Law

1 minute read time

In 1962 John F. Kennedy stated, "Our nation is founded on the principle that observance of the law is the eternal safeguard of liberty and defiance of the law is the surest road to tyranny."

Most of us have never lived under the harsh hand of tyranny, but we do not like it by just knowing about it. Tyranny is absolute power that is cruelly administered. It does not consider the individual or his needs and wants. Laws have been made to preserve our liberty.

Paul stated that God's laws were good, holy and just (Romans 7:12). God said that if people would obey His laws, it would go well for them forever (Deuteronomy 5:29, Deuteronomy 5:33). Disregarding the laws of God will bring about tyranny just like defying the laws of the land will. Our western nations have come the closest of any to giving liberty to all men. It will be the constant vigilance the next generations place on keeping the laws that will preserve that liberty. Laws were made for the good of the land. Keep them, for in the keeping is freedom.
