Leaving a Friend

1 minute read time

A good and trusted friend is hard to find.

It takes a long time to develop friendships that stand the test of time. It is rare to find a friend that sticks closer than a brother, and if you have such a friend, consider yourself blessed (Proverbs 18:24). Friends are those we trust with our goods, our hopes and dreams and even our half-baked ideas at times. They are the ones we are most easily hurt by, and the hurt from a friend goes deep.

A true friend sticks by at all times (Proverbs 17:17). There is a danger too because a whisperer or carrier of gossip can separate the closest of friends (Proverbs 16:28, Proverbs 17:9). We ought to be very, very slow in leaving a friend. We need to be sure gossip and vague accusations do not drive our decisions. When a friendship is in danger, go to your friend and make the friendship secure. Be that friend who sticks at all times. That is when your friendship is needed the most.
