Dear Compass Checkers, 

When I was a boy, I dreaded the end of summer. No matter how much I tried, the summer seemed to fly by, and I had to go back to school. School was not overly traumatic for me as it is for some. It did come with the usual stress, boredom and exhaustion, along with a few bright spots. Overall, the whole process was just not enjoyable for me. 

One thing that always helped ease the transition from the freedom of summer to the challenges of the school year was knowing that, not long after school started, I would be preparing to leave for God’s Feast of Tabernacles. No matter how much pressure, responsibility or drama would build up, there was relief coming. The Feasts of God were always something that I greatly looked forward to. Although my keeping of them has matured over the decades, they are still the highlight of the year. God, in His ultimate wisdom, knows what we need and appointed these Days for our benefit. 

The Fall edition of Compass Check will likely reach you just before you leave for God’s Feasts. Hopefully, we can all truly set aside the things going on in our lives and use God’s Feast to reset our focus. There will be a long winter waiting for us when we get back. The pressures of school, work and family life are still going to be at home. If we give our full attention to learning about God and His way during Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles and the Eighth Day, we will be better prepared to handle the strain of everyday life. 

My prayer is that this edition of Compass Check will be helpful both in preparing us for God’s Feasts and in helping us with the challenges that face us when we return.
