Join us for the Feast of Tabernacles in Hungary! The members of the Baltics, Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia (UCG B.E.E.S.) have traditionally held the Feast in Estonia, but this year God has placed His name further south into the heart of central/eastern Europe at the beautiful Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa in peaceful Hévíz, Hungary. The hotel is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas, yet is within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of downtown Hévíz, which is less than 2 km/1.25 miles away.
In addition to being the location where God’s Word will be shared and expounded throughout the Feast, the Lotus Therme has much to offer. Within the resort there are many opportunities to fellowship and relax with brethren. Shared meals, the spa, swimming pools, the Dead Sea cave, spacious seating areas, the Shali Mar Bar, the gym, tennis courts, and horseback riding are some examples.
The Lotus Therme is a spa hotel, and your room will be furnished with bathrobes, slippers, and other appropriate spa materials. In addition to the large indoor/outdoor heated pool, there are three thermal pools, saunas, steam rooms, massage rooms, etc. Therefore, expect to see many guests in common areas, especially near the spa, wearing bathrobes. Small bathrobes are available for children as well. You may consider bringing your own slippers.
Additionally, live music is performed each night in the lounge area until 10:00 PM, and the sound can carry down the corridors, though it is less noticeable in the rooms. If you are sensitive to this, consider requesting a room at the ends of the corridors away from the hotel’s central lobby/lounge area.
Activities
For those seeking adventure and relaxation outside of the resort, Hévíz is home to the largest swimmable thermal lake in the world, Lake Hévíz, which is approximately 1.6 km/1 mile from the hotel. The lake’s clear thermal water is known for its medicinal qualities and is swimmable year-round.
Another lake experience can be found on the shores of Lake Balaton in nearby Keszthely less than 9km/5.5 miles away. Balaton is Central Europe’s largest freshwater lake, and Keszthely is full of sites to see.
For some unique experiences, plan a ride in a hot air balloon, take the family to nearby Bobo Fun Park, complete with a rock climbing gym, laser maze, and trampoline park, or tour one of the many palaces, fortresses, castles, or ruins in the area. There are also caves to explore, or even take a boat through one in nearby Tapolca.
Further, there are plenty of sites to see before and after the Feast, such as nearby Budapest, which sits astride the Danube River and is known as the” Paris of the East.” Or go the opposite direction to Zagreb, Croatia’s capital that is sometimes called the “City with a Million Hearts” in reference to it welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Just a close are Vienna, Austria or Bratislava, Slovakia. So, you will not lack for opportunity to explore.
Check back for more information as the activity schedule is being developed.
While the most important reason we come to the Feast is to learn about God’s Kingdom and to fellowship, one of the critical ways we do this is through the practice of rejoicing together in His presence. So, come rejoice with us in the beautiful Balaton region of Hungary!
Dining
Half Board: Buffet Breakfast and Buffet Dinner in the Lotus Theme’s Restaurant Corvinus is included in the room rate. Lunch is on one’s own.
Restaurant Corvinus, while offering a large buffet dining experience, is a semi-formal dining area. Expect servers dressed in formal attire and formal place settings multiple pieces of cutlery. While bathrobes are acceptable around the spa, business/smart casual is the dress code for the dining area.
Travel
For international travelers to the European Union (EU), there are several things you may need in addition to your passport, which should have at least six months of validity. Though an exact date has not been set, the EU plans to introduce the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) near the last quarter of 2026. Keep a check on their website for additional entry requirements that may come into effect. Also, if you have a connecting flight in the United Kingdom, which is not part of the EU nor the Schengen Area, you will now need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
If coming from the United States and planning to rent a car, you will need to obtain an International Driving Permit online or at your nearest full-service Triple A location.
Finally, please note that the speed limit on highways in Hungary can reach 130km or 81.25 mph with some cars exceeding. Consider whether you are comfortable with these conditions before renting a car. Parking is €5 daily.
Air Travel
For those traveling to Hungary by air from international destinations, Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) has the most ground transportation options available, but several other airports are slightly closer. Consider each of the following:
- BUD - Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Hungary
- ZAG - Franjo Tuđman International Airport Zagreb in Croatia
- GRZ - Graz Airport in Austria
- VIE - Vienna International Airport in Austria
- BTS - M. R. Štefánik Bratislava Airport in Slovakia
Pécs-Pogány Airport (PEV) in Pécs, Hungary is scheduled to begin commercial flights in March 2026, so this may also provide an additional option. Hévíz sits nearly equidistant from all of these airports, with only a few minutes and a few kilometers separating the closest and farthest, so shop around.
Budapest Airport (BUD), while slightly farther away than the other airports, is in Hungary. This means that those renting a car will not have to pay cross-border fees as long as they remain in Hungary, making rentals much cheaper. Budapest has the most ground transportation options. Not only is it easy to rent a car and drive the 220 km/138 miles from Budapest in about 2.5 hours, but there is also a train with connecting bus option for those not wishing to drive. The bus station is about 2.6 km/1.6 miles from the Lotus Therme, so a taxi would need to be taken from there to avoid a long walk.
The Lotus Therme also provides a transfer service from the airport for an additional fee. Presently, this service is available to Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna and Graz, as well as a few airports that are farther away. For more on the transfer service, click here: https://lotustherme.net/en/transfer-services.
If choosing to fly into Croatia, Austria, or Slovakia and rent a car, while these countries are part of the Schengen area and allow cross border travel without passport control, you will still be required to notify the car rental company of your intention to carry the car across the border. This will require an additional fee, but it will ensure that you are covered by insurance. Failure to notify the company and get written consent to carry the car across the border, even into another Schengen country, can void your insurance coverage and make you completely liable for the car. So, consider the cross-border fees that will be tacked onto your rental car agreement if thinking of flying into an airport outside of Hungary.
Currency
Please note, while prices quoted from the resort are in euros (EUR, symbol: €), Hungary does not participate in the EU’s common currency. While some vendors will take euros, there is often a small markup due to exchange rates. Therefore, it is often more advantageous to pay in Hungarian forint (HUF, symbol: Ft). It is also good to have HUF on hand for vendors who do not take euros. Some parking meters only take coins in HUF, for example. To be sure you are getting the best price from vendors who take both, you might consider downloading an app that keeps track of foreign exchange rates. Some examples include XE Money Transfer & Converter or Currency Converter from OANDA, but this is not a recommendation nor endorsement of these products.
