Light of Hope Helpline Provides Mental Health and Addiction Resources

It is supported by Church members who are licensed social workers, counselors and other clinical professionals dedicated to providing resources regarding mental health and addiction needs within the Church. These services include individual, couple, family and teen consultations which may involve emotional support, coping skills and support services for those suffering from mental health or addiction issues.

We are pleased to announce that we have received an overwhelming, positive response to the program and calls are coming in daily from members from around the U.S. and Canada. We have received a few emails as well. Issues range in complexity; some callers are referred to other therapists and others are continuing to talk with our professionals.

Light of Hope is also a resource to the ministry. We’ve had ministers contact us seeking assistance to help guide members and the families they serve to successfully address the difficult challenges of mental, emotional and addiction issues.

The Light of Hope helpline is available at any time. When you call, it will initially record your message so that one of our professionals can respond within 24 hours. These specialists will also assist in connecting people with appropriate resources in their communities while keeping all information confidential. This service is also provided in several different languages including Spanish, French and German.

When members call in, they can expect to receive a call from a specialist about their initial concern. They will then be referred to one of our professionals for three to four consultations. Then they will be connected to community resources for continued long-term support. Should there be a need for further assistance, members can always call the helpline again.

Light of Hope also plans to develop online materials on a variety of topics such as depression, anxiety, stress management, suicidal thoughts, communication skills, problem solving strategies, teen issues, parenting issues, etc.

The helpline number is (888) 241-6211, which is toll free in the U.S. and Canada. If you are outside the U.S. or Canada, you can email us at hope@ucg.org

To aid in the continuing success of the Light of Hope program, we can use additional trained, licensed providers or consultants to assist in responding to calls.

If you are willing to help, please email us at hope@ucg.org with your clinical experience and contact information.
