Preheat oven to 350 F. Spread slivered almonds on baking sheet and toast until lightly colored 3 -5 min. Reduce oven temp to 300 F. Beat egg whites with an electric mixer in a large bowl until foamy. Gradually add sugar continuing to beat until whites are stiff and shiny, about 10 min. Gently but through fold in thes toasted and ground almonds and the dates. Drop the meringues by tablespoonfuls on an ungreased large baking sheet spacing 1” apart. Bake until cookies are golden and dry, about 25 – 30 min. Make about 3 dozen
