May Council of Elders Meeting

2 minutes read time

The Council of Elders meeting was very beneficial and accomplished a number of tasks, from normal business to new initiatives.

In May, the Council meeting immediately follows the annual meeting of the General Conference of Elders, which adds some unique elements to that meeting. This included expressing appreciation for Council members Dan Dowd and Victor Kubik, who completed their service. The Council also welcomed new members Andy Lee and Ben Light.

Considerable normal business occupied the Council. This included reviewing and approving ordination recommendations and accepting financial and legal reports. There were also updates from the various Council subcommittees. During this meeting, Council also conducted annual assessments of the president and of the secretary.

Among new work the Council did in this meeting was final approval of a doctrine paper on the resurrection at the Seventh Trumpet. The Council also approved a new investment policy, recommended by treasurer Ted Budge. The need for a policy has arisen from several years of positive income for the Church. Of course, the Council always has to deal with some confidential matters in executive session, and this was done with respect and care.

As concluding business, the newly seated Council selected Tim Pebworth to serve a second term as its chairman and it chose Peter Eddington for the role of deputy chairman. Council members then assigned themselves to the various standing subcommittees. There is much work ahead, but there is satisfaction in a very productive meeting now complete.
