2024 Camp Report: Malawi
This year's camp was a special one because we managed to bring four church areas together: Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mayaka/Zomba and Mchinji/Nkhwazi.
Summer camp was held from Aug. 18-25, 2024 at Naming'azi Farm in Zomba, the former old capital city of Malawi. The place is owned by Blantyre Presbyterian Church of Central Africa. It is a convenient and quiet location to hold camp, as it features hostels with ablution blocks, four self-contained rooms and two guest houses. There is also a restaurant on-site that prepares meals of guests’ choice.
The overall camp theme of “Stand Strong,” taught during morning Christian living classes, encouraged campers to put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6) and apply what they learned in their lives.
The daily activities included morning exercises (aerobics), a sack race, arts and crafts, a Bible quiz, balloon race, “pull of peace” (a different version of “tug-of-war”), volleyball, football, health counseling, a variety show and a camp dance.
The weather was cool throughout the week, and we thank God for His blessings upon the camp, the campers and the volunteer staff who selflessly served campers well. There was no sickness among the campers and staff, for which we are very grateful.
This year's camp was a special one because we managed to bring four church areas together: Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mayaka/Zomba and Mchinji/Nkhwazi. Some of the campers were at camp for the first time. They enjoyed making new friends.
To crown it all, the manager of the farm reached out saying that he was impressed with the behavior of our campers and staff. He said that other youth from other churches have often created problems for management to handle, but our campers were well-behaved.
Finally, we would like to thank “Good Works” for funding this year's camp, in terms of transportation, accommodation and food. It was one of the best camps we have had.
