Revelation Part 30
God seals those described as an innumerable multitude who come out of the tribulation having put on righteousness. God says that the Lamb will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of water. There will be no more crying for them as God wipes away their tears.
The Innumerable Multitude
After describing the sealed 144,000, John sees another vision—an innumerable multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They are clothed in white robes, symbols of purity and holiness, washed in the blood of the Lamb. They wave palm branches, recalling victory and celebration, much like the Feast of Tabernacles. Their song declares salvation belongs not to themselves but to “our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” This is the great gathering of all who responded to God’s truth, rejected the counterfeit teachings of the world, and endured tribulation by faith in Christ.
When asked who they are, the answer comes clearly: these are they who came out of the Great Tribulation. They endured hardship, persecution, and suffering for Christ, yet they are redeemed by His blood. Jesus promised that His followers would face tribulation in this world (John 16:33), yet He also promised His victory. These saints serve God continually, and He dwells among them. They will hunger and thirst no more; sorrow, tears and pain will be wiped away. God Himself becomes their shelter, echoing the hope of Ezekiel 48:35, “THE LORD IS THERE.”
Conclusion
Revelation 7 is a chapter of reassurance between waves of judgment. It demonstrates God’s sovereignty and mercy—He knows His people, seals them, and promises protection even as tribulation intensifies for the hard-hearted and unrepentant. It reveals both a numbered remnant (the 144,000) and an innumerable multitude, showing that God’s plan encompasses Israel and the nations, the few and the many, the remnant and the harvest. Above all, this chapter encourages believers to persevere. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that God “is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him,” and 1 John 3:3 calls us to purify ourselves as we live in hope. The message is urgent: watch, be ready, hold fast and trust God’s promises.
As the interlude closes, the stage is set for the opening of the seventh seal in chapter 8, leading into the trumpet judgments and intensifying woes. The end-time drama continues, but the vision of chapter 7 assures believers that no matter how severe the trials, God’s people are known, sealed and safe in His hands.
We will be pausing our look at Revelation here and will be moving into a new section looking at the Epistles in the Bible next week.
