Eagle's Nest Orphanage, December 29, 2013, Amy Bates
Bags are packed and piled into the back of a big yellow school bus, and the 13 of us climb in and get comfortable for the 3-hour ride from the Robledos' home to Eagles Nest Orphanage. As we make the trek to Sololá, the bus is full of chatter as we finalize activity planning, share stories, sing, laugh, take photos of the countryside, and Tim teaches us Australian words.
As we arrive at the orphanage, we are happily greeted by the directors and their families, have lunch, and enjoy a tour of the facilities. Eagle’s Nest Orphanage is located at the top of a hill overlooking Lake Atitlan and provides a beautiful view of the surrounding area. We were able to look at the school where we will be teaching many of our classes as well as refinishing the desks, and we were able to see the home the orphans live in and meet a few of the kids. The rest of the kids we will meet tomorrow. We end the day by doing activities to get to know the team better, organize supplies, and get ready to have a full day of activities starting tomorrow.
