Eagle's Nest Orphanage, January 3, 2014, Lisa Fenchel

Currently, the Sara Bareilles song “Brave” is very popular in the United States. In fact, the Minnesota Children’s Hospital recently made a very inspirational video based on this song that went viral.

This past week we’ve been working on an English project with children aged 12-15 where we’ve been learning the lyrics, dance moves, and most importantly discussing the meaning of this song. If you’ve not listened to this song, I highly recommend it. Stepping out in life and being “brave” is something all of us can identify with, whether we are living here at Eagle's Nest, going to college in the US, a mother of grown children or just starting our career! The ability to step out, be honest, not let circumstances define you... are lessons for all of us.

This concept has been a connecting point for me with the older children here at Eagle's Nest. When the kids realized that I was deathly afraid of zip-lining... they would look me in the eye and say “BRAVE” and, for those that were equally afraid... I returned the favor. So, whether it’s stepping out and giving your first sermonette, singing out in music class, or speaking in a foreign language - discovering ways to connect is what this project has been all about!
