Good Works Extends Relief in a Time of Hardship: Supporting Brethren in Nigeria

In the face of prolonged economic challenges, many Nigerians continue to struggle to meet basic daily needs and provide food for their families. Over the past two years, the Nigerian currency, the Naira, experienced a severe devaluation, at one point losing a substantial portion of its value against the U.S. dollar. While the currency has shown modest signs of stabilization in recent months, the overall economic environment remains extremely challenging.

Inflation, particularly in food and transportation, continues to place a heavy burden on households. Fuel prices remain significantly higher than in previous years, driving up the cost of goods and services across the country. Food prices, in particular, have risen sharply, with staple items such as rice, beans, and cooking oil becoming increasingly difficult for many families to afford. For some, basic items like milk, eggs, and meat are considered luxuries. As a result, many households have reduced meal portions or skipped meals altogether just to get by.

For the past two years, Good Works has continued to provide regular food assistance funds to support brethren in Nigeria. These ongoing efforts have enabled the purchase and distribution of essential food supplies to those in need. The Good Works food distribution program has brought meaningful relief to approximately 120 members in the region, supplying staples such as rice, beans, semo, and vegetable oil.

While this assistance does not resolve the broader economic challenges facing these families, it helps to ease the immediate burden and ensures that basic nutritional needs are met. The brethren in Nigeria remain deeply grateful for the kindness and generosity shown by those who have contributed to these efforts. Your continued support has made a tangible difference in their daily lives and stands as a powerful example of care and unity within the United Church of God.

“I, a lone ranger of the UCG Asaba-Benin Church, wish to express my profound gratitude for this unique love with some basic essentials given to us Nigerian Brethren, by the Home Office through our Pastor Paul Moody and the Good Works program. This is wonderful. I therefore join my brothers and sisters to say a big thank you.” —Fidelis Ekpeti, Benin Church.

“With a grateful heart once again, I immensely appreciate the Good Works Program, our Pastor, Paul Moody, all who voluntarily donated to provide funds for food items to support and relieve us during this time of economic distress, as well as the organizers dispersing to everyone. Thank you for cheering our hearts. We pray the Eternal Lord will continue to replenish all sources from which they reached out to help us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻”—Jennifer Omorodion

“Words cannot express how grateful I am to be among true Christians that doesn’t just say “I love my brothers” but also put that word, ‘LOVE,’ into action. Thank you to our dear pastor Moody, the Good Works Program and our local committee. May God bless you all!” —Stella Emeka

“On behalf of myself and family, I am sending a huge ‘shout out’ to the Good Works Program committee, the local committee members and our dear Pastor Moody. Words fail me to express the extent of my gratitude for this show of love, kindness and sacrifice in providing these food items. This is a timely intervention and a well- thought support at this time of economic downturn.

I pray that all efforts invested into making this a reality shall be rewarded bountifully. I pray that we shall all be vessels of honor, not just receiving, but giving and lending to Nations in Jesus’ name. Thank you all. —Olugbenga Oguntona

“Sir, PAUL MOODY, we appreciate your concern and for conveying the economic hardships and trials of our times, not only in Nigeria but in many other parts of the world, especially as it affects members of God’s Church here too. Please convey to the Good Works teams and donors our appreciation for demonstrating what it means to be “your brother’s keeper.” Their generosity will not be in vain. Almighty God will reward their Good works more abundantly in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen!” —Raphael Nduka
