Virtual Pinewood Derby Registration Open
Are you ready to race?
Our New England UCG congregations are planning an online social event. With the Winter Family Weekend being canceled this year, we have decided to host a Virtual Pinewood Derby on the weekend that Winter Weekend would have been held. The Virtual Pinewood Derby take place on Sunday, Dec. 27 from 1-4 p.m. EST.
We have held the Pinewood Derby race each winter in the New England UCG for the last four years. It is a much-loved activity among our kids and parents. Kids love racing their homemade Pinewood Derby cars down the over 30-foot-long track. During this time of COVID-19 preventing many large in-person gatherings, other youth groups like the Cub Scouts have done this event online.
Here is how it works
Step 1: Register online by Sunday, November 22: UCG Virtual Pinewood Derby Registration. If we receive forty or more registrations by Sunday, November 22, the race will proceed. We will inform all registrants on or before November 23 if the race will proceed or not.
Step 2: If the race is a “Go,” please buy this specific Pinewood car kit: Boy Scouts of America Official Pinewood Derby Car Kit. It is very important that you build your car according to the Race Rules, which you can download from this page under "Downloads."
Step 3: Once your car is built, please update your registration with your car name, car weight and a photo. Then you will ship your car to the race organizers in New England.
Note: If possible, we ask that a member of your congregation volunteer to coordinate shipping the congregation’s cars in one package to our race organizers. This will cut down on shipping costs considerably. We also ask that the you ship your completed cars by December 13. We will be reminding all registrants of the dates to buy their kits, update their registrations and ship their cars.
The Event
The race organizers will webcast the Pinewood Derby event with a camera input of the announcers and various camera angles of the track! Watch your car race the others from all around the country. Prizes will be handed out for Pinewood cars that are fastest, most creative, etc.
