Southeast Region Hosts First in New Round of Ministerial Conferences

Seventy pastors, elders and their wives gathered in Atlanta, Georgia, Oct. 24-27, for the first of a new round of U.S. regional ministerial conferences. The gathering provided opportunities for fellowship and practical instruction focused on the ministry’s shared responsibility to care for God’s people.

The conference theme, “The Miletus Mandate,” was drawn from Acts 20:17-38, where the apostle Paul gathered the Ephesian elders for a heartfelt farewell. His instruction in verse 28—“Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock”—served as the conference’s foundation.

Following a Saturday evening reception, Sunday’s sessions brought elders and their wives together to explore Paul’s example of faithful service. Presentations by John Elliott, Steve Myers, Gary Petty, Ben Light and Steven Britt addressed personal spiritual vigilance, guarding the flock, leading with credibility, working under authority and mentoring future leaders.

Monday and Tuesday focused on pastors and their wives, with additional sessions exploring the heart of a shepherd, God’s grace, humility, preaching the whole counsel of God and caring for scattered congregations.

The conference also offered interactive opportunities for pastors and wives to discuss real-life pastoral situations, applying biblical principles and Church policies while considering the most loving and effective responses.

Throughout the conference, one important principle emerged: The ministry serves under Jesus Christ, and the flock belongs to God. A minister’s responsibility is not merely to lead but to faithfully teach, encourage, protect and nurture those God has entrusted to his care.

Beyond the presentations, the fellowship, shared experiences and heartfelt conversations strengthened relationships and reinforced our shared commitment to serving God’s people.

As this new round of regional conferences begins, our prayer is that God will continue to strengthen His ministry with the humility, courage, wisdom and love needed to faithfully shepherd His people—and, as Paul expressed, to finish our race with joy (Acts 20:24).

Spotlight on Good Works

How Your Support Has Helped Brethren in Mexico

Hurricane Otis devastated Acapulco in October 2023, severely damaging the homes of Church members and leaving families without reliable access to food, clean water, power and other basic supplies. Hurricane John brought further hardship the following year.

Through the Good Works program and the generous support of Church congregations and individual donors, urgently needed supplies were delivered, and damaged homes were rebuilt with reinforced concrete roofs. Despite shortages of materials and labor, difficult terrain and demanding construction conditions, the rebuilding effort was completed after nearly a year of dedicated work.

The brethren in Acapulco are deeply grateful to everyone whose generosity made this recovery possible. At a time when they wondered how they would obtain basic necessities or rebuild their homes, your support became a tangible answer to their prayers. To every congregation and individual who contributed, thank you for extending a helping hand and giving these families renewed security and hope during one of the most difficult times of their lives.
