This sermon was based on the famous Antarctic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. Uncharacteristically, Shackleton had a unique approach to relationships with his team of men that supported him in his quest to reach the South Pole. At the end of the Victorian era, great class distinction and and rigid, sometimes brutal treatment of men was administered. Shackleton rejected the hierarchical and controlling structure style typical of his day. He worked with his men team building in an egalitarian manner. He used respect, kindness, humor inclusive approaches in relationship building. Unlike many of Shackleton's forerunners attempting to reach the South Pole Shackleton failed but never lost a simple man due to his care and willingness to sacrifice his personal goal for the good of his men. The Biblical principles of how to personably follow the model of Shackleton were discussed.
