The Book of Daniel - Chapter 2

So greetings again and welcome to the Bible study this evening Attending for the first time if you want to receive the notes from The background of Daniel then send me an email is Donald dot Ward at hotmail.com Once again is Donald dot Ward and hotmail.com Just say send me the notes and Daniel background whatever just a little short blurb of what you're requesting so we have come to Daniel chapter 2 We in this chapter 2 In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dream dreams Where with his spirit was trouble and his sleep broke from him So it was the kind of dream that you have like a nightmare in which you're so troubled By it that you can't go back to sleep, but Strangely he cannot remember it Now the dating of this as the second year of Nebuchadnezzar is questioned by virtually every commentary that I read That it's maybe the fourth year.

Maybe it's a different year But that's not so important to the message Anyhow, and of course as we mentioned the first time in our coverage of the background of Daniel They are the liberal and scholars of the day and common Was written during the time of in Tigers epiphanies in 167 BC one the 64 in that area there but We also turn to various places in the Bible of Jesus Christ in Matthew 24 and verse 15 says when you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation Stand in the holy place spoken of by Daniel the prophet let him who reads take note So we have the confirmation from Jesus Christ himself that Daniel wasn't a prophet and that in it my In my evaluation of it.

He also confirmed. They should be in the canon as we mentioned also in the session in the background session That Daniel appears as one of the major prophets in the Septuagint but in the Masoretic text it is placed in the writings in the Catuva in the writing as it is the Jew So as I said, it's not really germane to The study and the meaning of what the book about Then the king commanded to call the magicians and the astrologers the sorcerers and the Chaldeans To show the king his dream so they came instead before the king Amazing in what the East had they had the the very instruments of the devil himself as his chief advisors and those who would advise them as to what life was about and also What his dreams were and what he should do in the future and that kind of thing So he called all of these together to reveal to him his dream because He had forgotten the dream And the king said unto them I have dreamed a dream and my spirit was troubled to know Yeah, my spirit was troubled to know the dream Then spoke to Caldeans to the king Cyrillac O King live or ever tell your servants the dream and We will show you the interpretation Of course, that was the whole problem that Nebuchadnezzar had he didn't remember the dream or the interpretation So he was he was in trouble in that way.

Sorry Verse three and the king said unto them I Dreamed a dream and my spirit was troubled to know the meaning of the dream Then spoke to the they spoke to the Caldeans To Cyrillac who apparently was the head of the Astrologers and magicians and those who came to visit him The key answered and said this the first time The thing has gone from me If you will not make known it to me the dream With interpretation there of you should be cut in pieces and your houses shall be made a done hill So he was going to kill the all of the white people so wise people The strongest nations The soothsayers out of the kingdom if they cannot tell him the dream and the meaning of it They answered again and said The verse seven and they answered again and said Let the king tell his servants the dream And we will show the interpretation of it the king answered and said I know of certainty that you would gain the time because You see the thing is going from me So That's the problem him having as he tells all of them that he doesn't remember the dream But if you will not Make known unto me the dream there is but one decree for you And I for you have prepared lying and corrupt words To speak before me till the time be changed Therefore tell me the dream And I shall Know that you can show me the interpretation there are The county and answer before the king and said There is not a man upon the earth They can show the kings that therefore There is one king lord There is not one king no lord nor ruler But ask such a thing of any magician or astrologer or caledon And it is a rare thing that the king requires That there is none other than they can show it before the king except the gods whose dwelling Is not with flesh So none of them of course could tell him what the journey was daniel himself No person could really tell him And daniel had as we shall see Daniel had to rely on god to reveal to him Or what the dream is For this cause the king was angry very furious And commanded to destroy all the wise of babelung So he was going to put them to death cut him to pieces As he has said And the decree went forth That the wise men should be slain And they sought daniel and his fellows To be slain if you recall when daniel was given his graduation test in chapter one that he was 10 times wiser than all the astrologian magicians of the babelonian kingdom Then daniel answered with counsel and wisdom To ariac the captain of the king's guard which was gone for to slay the wise men of babelung So he was on his way to kill him because they said They couldn't answer then he answered And said to the king's captain.

Why is the decree so hasty from the king?

Then ariac made the thing known to daniel then daniel went in And desired of the king that he would give Him time and that he would show the king The interpretation then daniel went to his house And made the thing known too and here we have the Hebrew names of chadrak misha kabendigo that were given to Them in chapter one of the babelonian names But here are the hebrew names of chadrak misha kabendigo Hananiah misha michelle and asariah and his companions But they would desire mercies of the god of heaven Concerning the secret That daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of babelung So daniel's life was on the line as well So he resorted to Prayer he told it to those three And they began to pray daniel began to pray and then daniel answered and said blessed be the name of god for ever and ever For wisdom of might are his And he changes the times and the seasons He moves kings and sets up kings He gives wisdom under the wise and knowledge to them but no understanding And as we have mentioned before in hosiah 8 and chapter 4 God doesn't select every last king every last ruler if he'll turn to hosiah 8 and verse 4 you will see that People have set up kings and not by god by his Permission, but at times god intervenes in the course of human history Perhaps he intervened yesterday in the course of human history I don't know who he wanted to be the the ruler of the governor of the king of the president of The free world as we call it But we have a new one and in daniel 8th floor we see They have set up Kings and not by me and they have made Princes and I knew it not of their silver and their gold have they made them idols that they may be cut off So god doesn't select every last ruler that comes up he lets people decide oftentimes who will rule But at certain times in human history, for example with syrus Syrus As we read in isaiah When we talked about i when we covered isaiah That syrus Was given a decree from god and we read israah 1 1 that when syrus came to power He permitted the jews that were captive in babylon to return to the holy land and build the second temple So daniel then says verse 23 again, I thank you and praise you Oh you god of my father's Have given me wisdom and might and have made me known unto me now what we Make us better I thank you and praise you Oh you god of my father's Have given me wisdom and might and have made known unto me What we desired of you For you have made known unto the king Under the king's matter Daniel's prayer was answered But went into an ordained to destroy the wise men of babylon He went and said thus unto him Destroy not the wise of babylon Bring me in before the king and I will show unto the king the interpretation That ariach brought in daniel before the king and haste and said Thus unto him I have found a man of the captives of judorah That will make known unto the king the interpretation The king answered and said to daniel whose name was belte schauser That is his babylonian name Are you able to make known unto me the dream?

Which I have seen and the interpretation thereof Daniel answered in the presence of the king and said Daniel did not take any credit for it. He gave all credit to god God is the one who reveals the secrets To the prophets god is the one who Who the whom with whom the revelation?

starts and the chain of revelation is given in revelation chapter one and verse one You need to keep in mind the chain of revelation for example when the apostles asked What is the time of your coming?

Jesus said I don't know because It is only the father One who decides when he is going to send me back to the earth Notice this in chapter one revelation one one the revelation of jesus christ Which god gave unto him to show unto his servants the things which must shortly come to pass And he sent and signed it by his angel and his servant john so The revelation begins with god the revelation of jesus christ which god gave unto him So it started with god. He gave it to christ Christ gave it to the angel and the angel revealed it to john So that is the chain of revelation revelation Just like the holy spirit as it says In john 1526 the holy spirit proceeds from the father the The revelation the making known of prophecies is not of man He speaks to man as it says in the first two verses of hebrews chapter one And in times past he spoke to dreams and visions, but as in these last days Spoken unto us by a son And that is jesus christ And of course, we have the words of jesus christ Recorded to some degree. Of course, we don't have every last Word, but we have the accounts of matthew mark luke and john so back to verse 27 The secret which the king has demanded cannot The wise the astrologers magicians and sea-sayers Show unto the king. So daniel is having A little fun, I guess a ribbing of the king But there is god. There is a god in heaven That is that reveals secrets and makes known to the king nevineser Nebuchadnezzar What shall be in the latter days?

The latter days what shall be in the latter days?

Did you notice what it says in the latter days?

The dream and the visions of the land Upon your bed are these So daniel begins to reveal to the king the dream Yeah, as for you Your thoughts came on your bed What should come to pass hereafter?

And he that reveals secrets that being god makes known to you what shall come to pass So once the god once again god daniel takes no credit for it He gives credit unto God for revealing to him the secret But as for me this secret verse 30 Is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living but for their sakes That shall make known the interpretation to the king that You might know the thoughts of your heart so daniel then begins to interpret the dream This perhaps is one of the most often quoted scriptures and prophecy of the whole Bibles because it to some degree Outlines the the history of what is to come Now ten kings are spoken of in a in daniel and in revelation but for the most part Ten kings are not spoken of anywhere else You might find one or two places You will king saw and behold a great image So this is verse 31 the statue that was so often but portrayed of the kingdoms This great image whose brightness was excellent stood before you And the form thereof was terrible This image's head was a fine gold his breast And his arms of silver and his belly and his thighs of brass his legs of iron his feet part of iron and part of clay so daniel outlines five distinct parts of the body He talks about the head He talks about the breast or the torso He talks about the belly the thighs the legs Of course, the legs would be from the thighs down and then he talks about the feet You saw till a stone was cut out without hands Which mowed the image upon his feet And of course the symbology here the feet symbolizing you have five toes on each a foot and most all commentators agree that this the feet symbolizes the ten kingdoms That were of iron and clay and broke them to pieces Then was the iron the clay the brass the silver and the gold broken to pieces together and became as champ in the summer threshing floors If you've ever lived on the farm, you know when you think about uh Separating the wheat from the chaff or you know anything about Separating the steep from the falls as we called it Then you know about the chaff being blown away Of course, you've seen the dust storms On television or maybe you've lived through one So it was like chaff in the summer threshing floor and the wind carried them away That no place was found for them And the stone that smote the image became a great mountain a great ruling mountain and that mountain is Mount Zion now mount zion Mount zion is a physical location in the environs of Jerusalem And you'll find in isaiah tears that The nations are going to flow into zion into jerusalem and be taught the law And we know that zion from hebrews 12 let's go to hebrews chapter 12 And those and find out from hebrews 12 What zion symbolizes in scripture This is a vital understanding to the understanding of scripture the zion's symbolizes the church But we need to look at it in chapter 12 Now the book of hebrews what is the book of hebrews about the book of hebrews is about comparing and contrasting elements of the old covenant with elements of the new covenant And showing the great superiority of the new covenant so He first of all shows some not They were so Great when god Spent them from sanii and when he thundered the 10 commandments as you find in exodus chapter 20 And now in verse 19, this is hebrews 12 19 And the sound of the trumpet And the voice of words which voice they that heard it and treated that the words should not be spoken To them anymore.

They cried out. Oh We don't want to hear god's voice anymore We want to hear your voice moses because they Were afraid they quaked and trembled at the voice of god Or they could not endure That which was commanded And so much as a beast Touched a mountain it should be stoned Or thrust through with the dark And so terrible was the sight that moses Said I exceedingly fear and quake so that is The physical reality now the spiritual import But you have come to mount zion Now what is mount zion in the spiritual sense unto the city of the living god the heavenly jerusalem And to an innumerable company of angels to the general assembly and church of the first born Which are written in heaven and to god the judge of all and to the spirits of just men made perfect So this great mountain and now we go back to daniel chapter two and this this mountain Once again, I have messed up and lost my place i'll find it just a moment So daniel begins to tell neby canizer The dream that it will be in the latter days as I emphasize Where we covered that verse And so daniel comes down when we left out before we went to What zion symbolized the great mountain that comes up in the mountain increased in power and majesty And I'm trying to read this from the computer and i'm still cooperating so i'm I have turned in the scripture itself and read it from there I'm going to pick it up in verse 38 And whatsoever the children of men and worse, whoever the children of men dwell the beast of the field and the files of heaven That he has given unto your hand and has made you ruler over them all You are his head of gold And after this you shall there shall arise another kingdom An inferior one to you and another kingdom of of which Shall be the ruler over the earth and the fourth kingdom Shall be strong as iron Shall be as strong as iron for as much the iron breaks in pieces and subdue's and As the iron that breaks in pieces shall it break in pieces and bruise And whereas you saw the feet in the brass and part of the And part of iron The kingdom shall be divided but there shall be Strength of iron and also That of the clay the iron is very strong.

The clay is weak. So The kingdom will be partly strong and partly weak And as the toes of the feet Are part of the iron and part of the clay So the kingdom shall be strong And partly broken it'll be strong And partly weak there will be people there will be Nations that join this as we talk about the composite beast There will be nations that join this They maybe were reluctantly joining because they have no other choice And they will be partly strong and partly weak And whereas you saw It mixed with a mighty clay These shall mingle themselves with the seed of men Now the commentaries there talk about mingling with the seed of men in the literal sense But in the symbolic sense it has to do with the nations whether or not they're going to cooperate and Do the things that they That the head wants them to do but they shall not plea one to another and even as iron is mixed with clay So they still the the kingdoms Are partly weak partly strong they Just like iron is mixed with clay And the clay doesn't really adhere to the iron So it is with this and in the days of these Kings shall the god of heaven set up a kingdom Then shall the power Set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed and the kingdom Will not be left to other people and it shall break in pieces and the same Of all these kingdoms And it shall stand forever So it's going to smash all earthly kingdoms and all governments of the world and it will stand for For as much as you saw the stone was cut out out of the mountain with hands and they had broken pieces The iron the brass the clay the silver and the gold The great god have made known to you King that you May know me you king what shall Come to pass hereafter and the dream is certain and the interpretation sure Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and worshiped Daniel and commanded That they should offer an oblation and sweet odors under him now we want to Go back and talk about the kingdom once again Daniel's interpretation of the dream which he received in a dream Revealed the following characteristics of Nebuchadnezzar's statue A statue with a head of gold bell and silver and thigh and breast legs of brass and feet of brass and clay Note that there are five elements.

We mentioned that make up this statue but generally most interpreters and exegetes and exegete is one who tries to interpret the scripture So if you are taking formal theology classes they'll talk about the etch and the echogetical explanation for this Is such and such or in the singular noun sense it is an exegete So generally exegetes talk about four kingdoms the whole the gold head represented Babylon the silver belly represented the Medo-Persian the brass thighs represented Greece and the iron legs represented Rome And the iron and clay are not specified although some exegetes contend that the 10 toes 10 toes represent 10 nations and Generally speaking the church has said that the 10 toes represent a revived Roman Empire Now most of the commentators agree with a revived Roman Empire Some do not the composite piece This first of all is mentioned this with the statue that the C's and the interpretation that he gives states that This is this basically is a land-based statue and these nations rise from the earth The nations and the statues seem to arise from the earth and the beast of Daniel seven arise from the sea and the beast of revelation 13 from the sea which means you know the troubled mass of the sea like the sin and the symbology of certain things is difficult in some cases to understand sometimes when like let's turn to those scriptures or like look at Daniel seven first of all for these beasts to rise from the sea In Daniel chapter seven verse one in the first year of Beelzur Shazar king of Babylon of Beelzur king of Babylon Beelzur was the one who succeeded Nebuchadnezzar in the first year of Beelzur king of Babylon Daniel had a dream of visions of his head upon his bed Then he wrote the dream in tow of the some of the matters Daniel spoke and said I saw on my vision by night Behold the four winds of the heavens stroll upon the great sea the four beasts came up from the sea differed from one another Someone just sent an email interrupted me now we go to revelation chapter 13 and we'll see that beast of revelation 13 comes up from the sea the beast of revelation in Daniel 7 is blasphemous and we'll see that this beast blasphemes God and those in heaven in Revelation chapter 13 verse 1 and I stood upon the sand of the sea and saw beast rise up out of the sea having seven heads ten horns and upon the horns ten crowns and upon his heads the name of blasphemy and the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard and it names the same beast that are named in Daniel chapter 7 and I saw was like unto a leopard and his feet was like the feet of a bear and his mouth is the mouth of a lion and the dragon gave him his power so same the devil was the one who gives power to the beast system gave him his power and his seat and great authority where God can use gentile kings and he can use he can use kings that are converted but in many cases he uses gentile kings to punish his people then we'll see that this beast power that arises one of the main things that he does was verse 6 and he opened his mouth and blasphemed against God to blaspheme his name and his tabernacle and them that dwell in heaven and he was given to make war with the saints and overcome them and power was given in the overall the tongue so the according to the bible this is a worldwide phenomenon it's not limited to a local theme I keep getting it it's bigger than the internet sorry for the interruptions this evening usually don't have those so now let's look at the final beast of revelation chapter revelation chapter 17 talks about the final beast and one of the things that we have beyond today programs and talk about well who is the beast well we don't really say who the beast is we don't know for sure who the beast is there was one time in which we had a visit from one of the higher ups in Germany of Strauss was his name he even attended a sing-along at the big family campus and some said well he is going to be the beast he's going to be the beast of Daniel and also the beast of revelation because it is the same system Daniel gives you the broad outline and then details are given in different visions that Daniel has and in revelation in revelation 17 we'll pick it up in revelation 17 in verse 12 and the 10 horns remember the 10 toes and 10 nations and the 10 horns which you saw are 10 kings which I've received no kingdom as yet but received power as kings one hour with the beast they have one mind and shall give their power and strength under the beast these shall make war with the lamb so when Jesus Christ comes again you can read about the battle of the great day of God Almighty in revelation 16 these shall make war with the lamb and shall overcome them for he is Lord of lords and King of kings and they that are with him call and and these which where the whole world sits are peoples multitudes and nations and tongues so the Babylonian system engulfs the whole world and the 10 horns which you saw upon the beast these shall hate the whore the one that is ruled over them and shall make her desolate and naked and shall eat her flesh and burn her with fire for God had put in their hearts to fulfill his will and to agree with and to agree and give their kingdom unto the beast until the words of God shall be fulfilled and the woman which you saw in is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth now where does the beast power plant its headquarters some of these scriptures will turn will turn to several times as we study the book of Daniel in Daniel chapter 11 you find out where the beast power plants his headquarters in Daniel chapter 11 Daniel chapter 11 and verse 44 but tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy utterly and to make away many and he shall plant his tabernacles of his palace between the seas the seas in this case is the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea and the glorious holy mountain of God and that glorious holy mountain of God of course is mountain of God of course is Mount Zion but he shall come to his end and none shall help him none shall help him where's his headquarters it's between the two seas and the glorious holy mountain so we see that the what we need to understand is that we need to accept what the bible says as far as the identity of the nations i don't know what the identity of the nations are there are people who have divided the earth into 10 regions and they claim that these eventually will join the beast power and of course the church is basically taught that there will be resurrections of the Roman Empire and the final empire will consist of 10 nations and these 10 nations will perform what we have just read about in Daniel chapter 17 it's interesting that this woman that sits upon it is that great city which rules over the kings of the earth now let us go to Daniel chapter 8 and show you something uh there as well as i said we will be turning to these scriptures more than one time in Daniel chapter 8 we're breaking into the middle of a prophecy in Daniel chapter 8 in verse 18 we'll pick it up Daniel 8 verse 18 the angel has come to reveal to Daniel the meaning of the horn pushing against the the horns of that's coming from the east so it's Alexander the great and the Medo-Persian empire so Daniel's a verse 18 the angel has come to reveal to Daniel the meaning of the word so Daniel's verse 18 and as he was speaking with me i was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground but he touched me and gave me and stood me upright and and he said behold i will make known under you the end of the ending nation Daniel wanted to know when the vision would cease the man which you saw having the horns of the kings of media and the ram which you saw are the kings of media and Persia and the rough goat the king of Greece Alexander the great and the great and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king once again Alexander the great now that being broken where four stood up for it when Alexander the great died there was no one to succeed him he did not have a dynasty so his kingdom was divided among his four generals and they took certain parts the bible mainly deals with the Seleucid empire that extends from the middle east to all the way to India you know Alexander met his fate in India when they came out against him with elephants so four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nations and then the Ptolemies are located in Egypt Daniel 11 talks about the intrigue of the descendants of the Ptolemies and the descendants of the Lucids in their battle back in two of the holy land and in the latter time of their kingdom notice that in the latter time of their kingdom when the transgressors are come to the pool a king of fierce countenance and understanding dark sentences shall stand up and his power shall be mighty but not by his own power see the dragon gives him his power and he shall destroy that word destroy means to corrupt it does mean he puts to death he just shall corrupt wonderfully and shall prosper and practice and shall corrupt the mighty and the holy people and through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper and he shall magnify himself in his heart and by peace shall he destroy many and he shall also stand up against the prince of peace and he should be broken without hand and we just read from revelation 1714 where the beast power tries to attack god and here we see this one trying to go to attack god but the vision of the evening and of the morning which was told is true wherefore you shall shut up the vision for it shall be for many days and daniel faded and i was sick certain days afterward and i rose up and did the king's business and i was astonished at the but non understood it now we go back to daniel chapter 2 here so what we see here we see the statue ahead of gold babylon the belly the meads the persians we see here we see the thighs we have babylon the meads the persians thighs alexander the great the legs and feet would be historically what the church has taught would be rome and as i said there is a great deal of controversy with regard to whether or not the in that the statue part of the legs and feet represent rome but that's what we have always said and there are resurrections of the roman empire according to what we have taught and what i'm reading from scripture is from the scripture it doesn't matter what i think it doesn't matter what you think it doesn't matter what the commentators think i read to you from revelation one one what god the chain of revelation begins with god we have a more sure word of prophecy is peter rights in second peter one in verse uh 17 i believe it is 17 or not 18 or 19 a more sure word of prophecy where until we do well to take heed so we want to believe what the scripture says i don't know for sure what is going to come upon the nations of the world and when you see a program on beyond today they name the aims it will refer you to a booklet or to scripture with regard to it now we want to pick up as i said from daniel 2 where we left off he explained the the dreams in every canazar and the stone that would crush him verse 46 and the king nevican azar fell upon his face and worshiped daniel and commanded that they should offer an oblation and orders it is that your god is a god of gods and the lord of lords and a revealer of secrets seeing you could reveal the secret now you remember we'll talk about this one of the commentators who actually eloquent on this with regard to daniel accepting what the king said of him in daniel chapter one and he changed meat food or drink the king's wine so they what he he and his friends said right micha bengago insisted and they ate a bit of pulse or a vegetarian diet and when questioned they were had more flesh they looked better or healthier and had more wisdom than all of the caledians so daniel would not even take the king's meat or wine but here he accepts the king's oblation i believe that daniel did this because for daniel to play with regard to revealing many things to him and him recording them and preserving them so that we might learn from it so he continues here verse 47 the king answered unto daniel and said of the truth it is the truth it is king of secrets seeing you could reveal this secret then the king made daniel a great man and made him gave him many great gifts and made him ruler over the whole province of babylon and the chief of the governors over all the wise men of babylon now this is not the first time that a servant of god accepted this kind of promotion because as you recall joseph accepted this he revealed to pharaoh the dream about the chattel and about the drought that was coming and he stored the grain for seven years and whereas the other nations were starving they had plenty and they bought from the egyptians so joseph was only second to pharaoh and the whole land so it's not the first time that a gentile ruler has made a person that definitely did what god told him to do and commanded him to do that which was right so daniel received this oblation this complements and promotion from the king then king made daniel a great man and gave him many great gifts and made him ruler over the whole province of babylon first 45 then daniel requested of the king and he set and he set shadrach, mishak, and aminigo over the affairs of the province of babylon but daniel set in the gate of the king so shadrach, mishak, and aminigo they went out and did the work of governing the province in the daily affairs and daniel set in the gate of the king so we have chapter two a broad outline of the history of in a sense of what's going to happen in the future now in future classes when we get to daniel 7 and daniel 8 and of course we will be going to revelation and other places we will see hopefully see more of this come together but as far as naming the nations or the regions of the earth that will be under the rule of the beast i cannot do it and i don't know of anyone they can't name them by name we see what's going on in the world today that europe is in strange with regard to the war in ukraine now one of the things that perhaps you don't know but according to the accords that were set up the united states gave germany in netherlands and turkey and other a couple of other nations adam bongs you probably don't know that but you can um you can google and what you'll put in google is then the us give nuclear weapons to nations and europe and so you have to do and it will bring up the nations in which the us gave nuclear bongs to those nations under the nucleus that were agreed upon by nato so we um stop for the
