God used a system of carrots and sticks, blessings and cursings, to keep ancient Israel moving in the right direction. Today, in the New Covenant Church of God, we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit that helps us understand and obey the spirit of the Law, not only the letter, and over a lifetime ultimately leads to conversion.
