Come Out of Her My People

The angel of Revelation 18 warned after the fall of Babylon "Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues."  What was meant to "Come out of her"?  What does it mean to come out of the world? Was it a warning that we should not be wrapped up in the ways and means of this world?  Peter stated that we were sojourners and pilgrims and that we are to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul.  How does Christ's parable of the sower and the seeds that fell among thorns apply?
