Perilous times. Today as in Paul’s Day. The New Testament Hellenistic Roman Culture was very similar to today. Rampant and perverse sexuality, divorce for any reason, hypocritical religious leaders who brokered and abused power instead of serving and teaching truth. Roman military might controlled the world directed by the invincible Caesar—citizens had some rights but justice was swift and punishment cruel. We yet enjoy the freedoms of a constitutional republic founded on the self-evident rights endowed to us by the Creator, but if recent events portent the future those rights too like the culture around us are in peril.
