Filling the Empty Space

Removing leavening prior to the Days of Unleavened Bread symbolizes the act of eliminating sin, creating a space where the sin once was. How long does it take to reintroduce leavening into our homes after these days have ended? On a spiritual level, do we reintroduce behaviors that were previously removed? How can we keep this space spiritually clean?
