Pentecost pictures the first fruits, the first harvest in God's plan.  God has called us and opened our minds to this reality.  After Christ returns the world is going to become a better place.  He has called us for a purpose.  God will use what we have learned and what we are becoming to help make this world the place that he originally intended.
