That He Might Have the Preeminence

This message invites us to wrestle with a challenging but deeply meaningful biblical truth: that in all things, Jesus Christ is to have the preeminence in our lives. Beginning in Colossians 1, we explore why the Father Himself desires that His Son be exalted, honored, and placed at the center of our anticipation—not only for what He will bring in the Kingdom, but for who He is. The sermon addresses the hesitation some may feel toward this idea, contrasts a transactional approach to religion with the relational calling God intends, and walks through scriptures showing that Christ’s supremacy is the Father’s will. We learn that giving Christ the preeminence means making Him the focus of our hope and allowing ourselves to “decrease” so that He may increase—embracing dependence on Him, remembering the purpose is bigger than ourselves, and letting His joy overpower the world’s darkness. Ultimately, the message calls us to bow our knee to Christ now, to delight in the relationship we are invited into, and to let the mind of Christ govern our lives as we look ahead to the time when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess His name. Listen in and be encouraged to renew your devotion to the One whom the Father has exalted above every name.
