Leaven of the Pharisees

Christ used the "leaven of the Pharisees" to show us all how we easily can fall into feeling we are doing God's will by our efforts, and not by having His core approach guiding us. In other words we can become people who do things which we define as righteous, rather than allow God to create His way of selfless service and sacrifice without expectation of reward in us.
