The Miracle of Water

Water is a common, yet miraculous substance that was created by the super-genius Creator God that we serve. Water has several physical and chemical properties that promote the existence of plant and animal life in and out of the water. Water has been called the “universal solvent” because it is capable of dissolving so many substances. Water is the most common substance on earth and covers more than 70% of the earth’s surface. Water fills the oceans, rivers, and lakes and is in the ground and in the air we breathe. Without water, there can be no life. Every living thing, plants, animals, and man must have water to live. In fact, every living thing consists mostly of water. Water helps to moderate the earth’s climate from getting too hot or too cold. Land absorbs and releases heat from the sun quickly. But the oceans absorb and release the sun’s heat slowly. Water can be a blessing or a curse; a blessing if given bountifully in due season and a curse during floods, tsunamis, and other catastrophic events. God promised ancient Israel blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. The first blessing mentioned in Lev 26 is receiving rain in its season. The blessings of rain in due season would be replaced with the curse of drought and crop failures for disobedience. Water was also used for various ceremonial washings and purification. Water is used as a symbol of the cleansing of the heart from sin (Ezekiel 36). We are buried in the waters of baptism and rise to walk in newness of life. Water is a miraculous substance designed for our benefit by the all-powerful, super-genius Creator God.
