Sermon Notes

Move (Keep Walkin’)

There’s a song I like... Move, by Tobymac, and I’m going to spend some time in the lyrics of that song, today. From it we can derive instruction.

Another heartbreak day

Feels like you’re miles away

Don’t even need no shade

When your sun don’t shine, shine

Joh 8:12  Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

You will notice it does not say, “He who looks at Me,” or, “He who focuses on my appearance.” It reads, “He who FOLLOWS Me.”

Uffizi experience...

reps of Jesus, Mary, wise men, adoring disciples, angry Pharisees, etc.

Paint picture. Thousand words.

Too many passin’ dreams

Roll by like limousines

It’s hard to keep believin

When they pass you by and by

I know your heart been broke again

I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet

I know you’re feeling like you got nothing left

Well, lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet so

Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on

Move, keep walkin’ until the mornin’ comes

Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on

And lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet

Echoin’ inside your head

Are the words that your sweet momma said

“Shoot for the moon, my dear”

So you took aim out of this atmosphere

Between high stakes and pump fakes

You’re feelin’ like you can’t buy a break

I can hold your hand, but I can’t turn your eyes to freedom

Joh 8:31  Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

Joh 8:32  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

All have hopes and dreams. All have been emotionally scarred in relationships. Problem. Getting caught up in false vision, false sense of success. We start playing the game.

High stakes, pump fakes

Hold on, hold on

The Lord ain’t finished yet

Hold on, hold on

He’ll get you through this

Hold on, hold on

These are the promises

I never will forget

I never will forget

In this stanza we find the will to keep moving, to hold on, is related to promises, promises we MUST NOT FORGET. What are those promises?

2Co 6:14  Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

2Co 6:15  And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?

2Co 6:16  And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM. I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE." à à à

2Co 6:17  Therefore "COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM AND BE SEPARATE, SAYS THE LORD. DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN, AND I WILL RECEIVE YOU."

2Co 6:18  "I WILL BE A FATHER TO YOU, AND YOU SHALL BE MY SONS AND DAUGHTERS, SAYS THE LORD ALMIGHTY.""

2Co 7:1  Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

So, with the promise that God will dwell in us and among us when we repent and receive the Spirit LIFE of God, all promises related to that are fulfilled or in the process of being fulfilled, both, in practicing righteousness, and being delivered into pure, everlasting righteousness.

Returning to the final lyrics of the song...

I know your heart been broke again

I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet

But it ain’t over yet, it ain’t over yet

So get up and move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on

Move, keep walkin’ until the mornin’ comes

Move, keep walkin’ soldier keep movin’ on

And lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet

This ends the lyrics to the song, “Move,” and from it we can turn to scripture to establish confidence in God.

The answer FOR NOT seeing the light at the end of the tunnel in the affairs of this life, is to always be focused on the true light that is Christ.

Our struggles are real, but none of the disappointments related to those struggles compares to the promises of God, which are consolidated into the FACT that God is actually in each of His children through God’s Holy Spirit. The answer to the disappointments of this life is found in the Word, which is Christ, those words which instruct us in righteousness, these words that witness the actions of Christ Himself in exemplifying that behavior, and the words of promise.

What is the PROMISE or, if broken down, are the PROMISES? God’s word is true. His obeyed word is a blessing. God can be in each of us by the Spirit of God upon redemption. Being now begotten we are promised to be born. When born, we will live in eternity in pure righteousness. à à à

If our eyes are turned toward Christ, we will believe his words of truth, both in how we are to act, and in what God promises to those who believe and obey.

Have you had another heartbreak day? Does it feel like nothing’s going your way? Well, we can rely on our brethren to hold our hand, to be patient with us, to forgive us, to encourage us, and this offers comfort. But, if we turn our eyes toward the freedom that is found in Christ, we will always be in the presence of the light. WE WILL be the patient ones, the comforters, and the encouragers. In short, our struggles in the flesh will be put into a manageable perspective compared to God’s spiritual involvement in our lives.

Walk! Keep Moving! Hold on! Never forget the promises!
