Pride – One of the Root Causes of Sin

Pride causes people to think more highly of themselves than they ought. Be cautious of being “Respecter of persons” – become childlike. Sodom’s first sin was pride. Lucifer was perfect until pride was found in him. The nation of Judah thought they were better than other people because they were god’s chosen and had the Temple. God is the righteous judge and will cast the haughty down. Do we give credit to God for all the good in our lives?

Michael was an elder who most recently served the Roanoke, Virginia, congregation of the United Church of God, where he had served as pastor for five years. He and his wife, Rita, lived in Lansing, West Virginia. He was a retired chemist. They enjoyed hiking and biking.
