Sifted Like Wheat

Jesus warned Peter that satan wanted to "sift" him like wheat. Sifting wheat is a rough process to get to the useful kernel. Peter was going to endure a trial of great proportion. We, too, go through trials similar to Peter. How do we face such trials?
