Sound Forth Atonement for ALL

INTRO: The Day of Atonement portrays for the nation of Israel what Passover symbolizes for God’s people today—extending Passover to the entire nation, and ultimately all mankind.

BENEFIT STATEMENT: There is a much larger responsibility for each of us than allowing humility and repentance to blossom in us personally. We will find THIS Day contributes to the Church preparing for SERVING ALL humankind and GOD just as God serves us ALL now.

SPS: We will discover that God’s Chosen Ones are to dwell WITH God NOW …&   Sound Forth Atonement for ALL

BODY:

1. God is Making Atonement for ALL ultimately THROUGH His Son and His Church

NKJ Leviticus 23:26 ¶ And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 27 "Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the LORD. 28 "And you shall do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the LORD your God. 29 "For any person who is not afflicted in soul on that same day shall be cut off from his people. 30 "And any person who does any work on that same day, that person I will destroy from among his people. 31 "You shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 32 "It shall be to you a sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath."

NKJ Leviticus 16:29 ¶ " This shall be a statute forever for you: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether a native of your own country or a stranger who dwells among you. 30 "For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, to cleanse you, that you may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.

• “make atonement” = cover, purge, make reconciliation for

NKJ Leviticus 16:34 "This shall be an everlasting statute for you, to make atonement for the children of Israel, for all their sins, once a year."

• For this reason, Jewish tradition considers the ten days from the Feast of Trumpets to the Day of Atonement as a time of self-searching and repentance.

• The main meaning of the day is the whole world becoming reconciled to God.

NKJ Romans 5:6 ¶ For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation (“atonement” – KJV).

• Interestingly, “atonement” doesn’t appear in modern translations of the NT, and only in this one verse in the KJV.

• Instead, “reconcile” and “reconciliation” are used.

• “Reconcile” and “reconciliation” occur only twice in the OT.

• Could it be because this would indicate the connection between the Day of Atonement and the death of Jesus Christ for sin?
• “reconciliation” = “the exchange of hostility for a friendly relationship” (BDAG lexicon)

Colossians 1:19-22   19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell,  20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.  21 ¶ And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled  22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight –

• Only a small minority of people—those whom God has personally called and chosen—have experienced this reconciliation.
• God’s plan calls for all mankind to have an opportunity for reconciliation.

• Before this can happen, Jesus Christ has to return to earth to establish the Kingdom of God on earth (meaning of the Feast of Trumpets).
• And Satan must be removed so he can no longer deceive mankind (portrayed by Atonement).

(((((NIV 2 Corinthians 4:3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

• “god of this age (Gr. aeon) – temporary span of time, until he is put into restraint as portrayed by the Day of Atonement

Leviticus 16 – The OT Atonement ceremony portrays this truth.

                5-9) The sacrificed goat represents Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for sin.

                10, 21-22) The live goat represents Satan.

• Confessing sins & laying on of hands = placing the responsibility for all sin on the head of Satan.
• Driving the goat into the wilderness = Satan’s fate.

NKJ Revelation 20:1-3  ¶ Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.  2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;  3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

(((((NKJ 2 Peter 2:4 ¶ For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;

• “hell” (Gr. tartaroo = “In Greek mythology Tartarus is the place of punishment of the Titans and of disobedient gods and is conceived as a gloomy place deep under the earth. 
• The Day of Atonement reminds us that Satan and his demons will be removed prior to the beginning of the millennium.)))))

Since we are to enjoy a foretaste of the millennial rule of Jesus Christ at the Feast, and since Satan will not be around during the millennium, we need to put Satan away from us before, and keep him away from us during the Feast.

• How do we do this?

NRS 1 Peter 5:5-9 And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 6 ¶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. 8 Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.

• Satan is seeking victims to “devour”—especially prior to the Holy Days, because He doesn’t want us to benefit from them.
• “same kinds of suffering” = universal danger
• How resist Satan?
  • By humbling ourselves – How do we do that? By fasting.
  • By keeping alert (Trumpets theme)
  • Being steadfast in the faith—All of God’s Holy Days help us to be more steadfast.

• The FoT offers more hours of spiritual food than all the other Holy Days combined.

(((((NKJ James 4:6-10   6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."  7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.  10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

• Sounds a lot like what Jewish tradition calls for from Trumpets to Atonement, doesn’t it?
• We fast on the Day of Atonement to put away Satan by drawing closer to God.
• It is also a time to repent and put away sin and to determine to be steadfast in the faith.
  • A pretty good way to prepare us to derive maximum benefit from the Feast of Tabernacles.
  • A couple side benefits of fasting:

1. to clean out our system to improve our health prior to eating more and differently during the Feast.
2. It helps us appreciate a nice meal that is otherwise easy to take for granted.
    

2) Living in the Holy of Holies ALLOWS God’s People to participate in Universal Atonement

The comparison contrast of the Promises is not just the OC. The church is symbolized by Mount Zion.

Hebrews 12:19-24 (New King James Version) 19  and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore. 20  (For they could not endure what was commanded: "And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot with an arrow." 21  And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, "I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.") 22  But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23  to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24  to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

We are in the NC right now, and we have access to the Holy of Holies where we are to LIVE. This expands the meaning of the Day of Atonement where our High Priest has ascended to the heavens and we can come to the throne of grace.

Hebrews 8:10 (New King James Version) 10  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

We Can enter into and then LIVE in the Holy of Holies.

Hebrews 10:16-23 (New King James Version) 16  "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them," 17  then He adds, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more." 18  Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. 19  Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20  by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21  and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22  let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Heb 6:20  where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

When in Ezra 6.16 and Haggai 8.9-11 Shows that the glory of God did not fill the tabernacle in the OC completely, BUT NOW …

Prayers and communications of being immersed in His Way are our sacrifices too …

Hebrews 13:14-16 (New King James Version) 14  For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. 15  Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. 16  But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

1 Peter 2:4-5 (New King James Version) 4  Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5  you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

We are to CONTINUALLY Live in God’s Presence – offering Self in Service FIRST to HIM & THEN to Humanity)


3) The CHURCH “sounds forth” the concept of Atonement – BY Faith in God’s Plan of Atonement

Tri-fold work of commendation and faith and love and hope. Often were under great persecution by the Jews.

1 Thessalonians 5:8 (New King James Version) 8  But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

Hope is that which permeates the whole mindset, and it permeates the mind and with the vision and coming picture of the kingdom of God and the living of the Way of Life now.

If you have patience, in the Lord Jesus Christ in the site of of our God and Father. So if you let patience have her perfect work …MEANS that you know and know that you know no matter what happens god is going to deliver His Plan for His Family.

1 Thess 1:3  remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father,

You can have all these things because you KNOW that God has elected you and will deliver you, so you KNOW your election of God.

If you are in the Truth, God has knowledge of you and therefore you can have patience and Hope due to HIS initiating of this process.

Paul is saying that they didn’t just preach the Word, but lived it and miracles were done accordingly.

They heard His teaching and saw the miracles and heard His teaching and concerning His sacrifice, YET they did not get it, SO it is a great miracle that we see this here.

Luke 24:44-45 (New King James Version) 44  Then He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me." 45  And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

1 Thes 15  For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power [dynamis], and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

There was much persecution as in Acts 17, and they received with Joy the Word. Today this seems to have departed much from us and heaviness of heart is overtaking us as we see the world dying.

1 Thes 17  so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe.

            Due to the persecution they endured, became examples which was voiced abroad to the Church and humanity.

1 Thes 1:8  For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything.

            We see how many Gentiles were brought in by this example.

1 Thes 19  For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,

This speaks to the Spiritual conviction and change based on GOD working real change IN you. Part of our Calling is to Show forth God’s Atonement by SHOWING God to humanity.

            That is to produce the example Church to humanity.

CONCLUSION: HOW ARE we to DO this Atoning thing to involve ALL?        BE    O F    Christ …

Christ equates HIS Words with Spirit and Life.

John 6:63 (NKJV) 63  It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

John 16:13 (NKJV) 13  However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. What does the Holy Spirit HEAR? The Word of Truth

WHAT “Words”? The ONES the Church has brought FORTH …

Romans 10:17-18 (NKJV) 17  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18  But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: "Their sound has gone out to all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world."

The Holy Spirit will guide you into various actions as you HIDE the Words of Christ in your heart (emotional subconscious) …AND this is FOR ALL humankind’s At-One-Ment, not just YOU!

• The CHURCH “sounds forth” the concept of Atonement – BY Faith in God’s Plan of Atonement

CLOSE: We could recapture the joy that spoken of in God’s Word, but the conditions of the world legislate against that.  Go into a far country; seek a country, follow Me; come out of her my people …BE At ONE with God and man (as GOD is)

We don’t convict by showing how much we are like God. We convict by showing …GOD.

How ELSE could we possibly prepare for the Millennium of Kings and Priests?
