The Abilene Paradox is a business management principal described in the 1970's by Jerry Harvey. In the true story that inspired the description of the paradox - 4 people decide to travel to Abilene, Texas for a meal on a hot and dusty summer evening in West Texas - only to realize when they returned that none of them wanted to go in the first place. Thinking that they were alone in their objections - they kept quiet and didn't voice their concerns. Looking at the conditions of the world and of the church in the latter days through the writings of Paul, we can see that there are numerous things contrary to the word of God that will be present both outside and inside of the Church of God. What do we do if/when these things begin to creep into our midst? How can we exercise Godly Judgment, Mercy and Faith in the modern era of the Church, surrounded by a culture of moral relativism? It requires a recognition of the standard by which we judge and are judged, and a willingness to stand in the gap.
