The purpose is to create a basic outline of the differences between the first and second resurrections. The first resurrection is when the saints awake from the sleep of death to receive eternal spirit bodies; perfect, converted minds; and rule with Christ for 1000 years. The second resurrection is when the rest of humanity, who never had a chance to know God, wake from the sleep of death back to physical bodies with carnal minds. They must then either choose life and be converted or reject God and be cast into the lake of fire.

Gary Petty is a 1978 graduate of Ambassador College with a BS in mass communications. He worked for six years in radio in Pennsylvania and Texas. He was ordained a minister in 1984 and has served congregations in Longview and Houston Texas; Rockford, Illinois; Janesville and Beloit, Wisconsin; and San Antonio, Austin and Waco, Texas. He presently pastors United Church of God congregations in Nashville, Murfreesboro and Jackson, Tennessee.
