A Tree or a Shrub

Moving From Choice to State of Being

Today, I begin with a question: A tree or a shrub: Which One Have You Chosen to Be LIKE? The prophet Jeremiah presents the fate of the shrub and the fortune of the tree in an analogy he likens to man: The shrub in the desert stands small, shriveled, and unproductive in a parched and uninhabited land. The tree, by contrast, stands tall by the waters with roots spread out, not fearful to engage the heat of the day, not anxious in the year of drought, never ceasing to bear fruit for all who suffer need. Which one have you chosen to be like? Which one am I like? You see, we become what we choose to be.
