Everyone craves mercy and compassion when punishment is deserved. Yet many only see the God of the Old Testament where mercy is not written into the letter of God’s law which declares standards and penalties. Instead, mercy flows from the heart of the merciful Lawgiver Himself. Jesus called mercy a “weightier matter” of the law (Matthew 23:23). Therefore, let's examine where true mercy resides, and why we must extend it as freely as Christ has given it to us.
