Demons in AI?

Is AI demonic—or are we just letting it control too much of our lives? What is the real spiritual concern behind Artificial Intelligence and why should Christians approach it with wisdom, not fear.

[Darris McNeely] Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing our world. It is available in most computer applications. It is changing the way business works. Jobs are being eliminated by AI. Promises and expectations of this new technology multiply by the day. I read something about AI in every publication I open.

AI is changing the way we use the internet. I now use it to search for items I want to buy or know more about. I use it to research articles. AI produces class outlines for me. It refines, clarifies, and simplifies writing.

Now, I read that some claim AI is demonic. Users of AI chaat bots can actually be talking with beings from another dimension. One article said, “People are Losing Loved Ones to AI-Fueled Spiritual Fantasies,”. No doubt some abnormal things are happening with people as they engage with AI.

But, I don’t think the demonic world is behind AI.

Rather, what I think happens is people can be taken over by the process of technology that does our thinking for us. Or it induces us to allow technology to consume our time, creativity, and critical thinking. It can consume our time and “possess” us in a way that too much media, television, game tech or other pursuits can take over our life. Any yes, some with distorted reality can be aggravated by the experience.

I have known people who thought the voice on the tv or radio was talking to them, motivating them to bizarre behaviors. It wasn’t the voice. It was their own fantasy and thinking which caused them to act differently.

AI is code running on physical hardware and silicone chips. Demons are spiritual. They may possess a person who is open to possession. You and I should guard our minds and our lives. Stay close to God. Set your minds on things above and not on earth (Col 3.2)

AI is not demonic. It is a tool of technology with an enormous impact on our world. Use it as a tool to advance knowledge. But don’t fear it as something from another world.
