Whatever Happened to Sin?

A new Beyond Today program shows one vital ingredient to identifying sin in today's world.

[Darris McNeely] We taped a Beyond Today program this week entitled, "Whatever Happened to Sin?" It was an interesting subject to get into and to research, and in part of my research it took me into an old novel that I had read a number of years ago where the author described the building of a dugout canoe by Native American Indians and how his scene they made sure that the canoe had a ridge on it running down the length of the boat in order to keep it stable and able to guide and steer in the water. The point that was made and what we used in our program is that life is best lived when we have a backbone, when we have a solid anchor or a keel like this boat does here, this sailing ship, that helps to keep it stable within the water. Now most boats have that. Certainly your larger ships do. Some canoes and some other flat bottom boats may not have that, but any sizeable ship is going to have a well-defined keel and a backbone to it upon which the entire ship is built and in order to keep it stable and guiding and going true within the water.

And the important illustration from that is what is important for our life that our lives have got to have a solid, straight keel or backbone upon which all of our decisions, morally and ethically, are made and based. And as we did in our program, we said that that is best done when our lives are laid down like the keel of a ship within God's eternal spiritual law, the Ten Commandments. With that as our solid anchor, then we can navigate the treacherous moral and ethical problems of our day and of any time and place. God's law is eternal. It's unchangeable. And when that is our backbone of life, our spiritual life, then the shifting tides and ideas of morality and ethics within our current world are not going to bend us and shape us and cause us to drift in our own lives away from what is right, solid, and true according to God's law. And so the program I think you're going to want to watch online, "Whatever Happened to Sin?" to help you to understand exactly what it is that you need in your life to navigate today's world.
