Why is God so concerned about idolatry?
[Gary Petty] Have you ever wondered why God is so concerned about idolatry? I mean, when you look in the Old Testament, He condemned ancient Israel for any participation in idolatry. You also find it mentioned in the New Testament, as the apostles condemned idolatry. So we can look at pagan religions that worshipped Zeus in the past, or Hinduism or something like that today, and we can say as Christians, “Well, that’s condemned by God.” But are Christians, or can Christians, be guilty of idolatry? We’ve done a Beyond Today program (airing in February 2017) on that very subject to deal with a very hard and difficult and controversial question – are Christians guilty of idolatry? When we look at really what idolatry is in the use of icons and statues and pictures and the worship of God, we can find that it is a very serious issue that Christians need to face. So I encourage you, if you had this question, you worry about it, you think about it – be sure and watch the program.
That’s BT Daily. Thanks for watching.
