[Gary Petty] The Beyond Today crew was talking the other day about Exodus 12 where the Death Angel passed over the Ancient Israelites in the first Passover. But as we went and looked at Exodus 12, we realized that's not what it says. It says the Lord passed over. It's amazing how many things we assume that we pick up over the years that we think the Bible says, that it really doesn't say. (Exodus 12:12, Exodus 12:23, Exodus 12:29-30)

[Darris McNeely] I think we have to be careful about that Gary because all of us have ideas about phrases that we've grown up with or that we've adopted over the years and we think that they're in the Bible, and they're really not—like "cleanliness is next to godliness." A good phrase, but it's not really in the Bible in that exact way.

[Gary Petty] Now I knew someone who thought "all men are created equal" is in the book of Proverbs. Of course, it's in the Declaration of Independence. So, we have to be very careful. Study the Bible. Do what it says the Bereans did in the book of Acts (Acts 17:11). Look it up, make sure it's really there and realize that all of us have certain assumptions about clichés that just aren't there.

[Darris McNeely] And when we find out what the Bible really does say about any topic, then the question and the matter really goes back to us, what are we going to do about it? But first, let's get it correct. Let's understand what it says and then let's advance to the point of doing what the Bible tells us to do once we get that right.
