[Gary Petty] We hope you’ll join us on our new Beyond Today program we just produced, “Lord, Help me Believe”. It’s about faith. We talk about some of the barriers we have to having real faith, trusting God. And one of them is we lack faith experience.

Now, what I mean by that is, when you look at David facing Goliath, you think, “Wow, if we could just go out and face the giants” – but David didn’t face Goliath without being trained by God. He had faith experience every day. One of the things he did was he faced the lion, and God helped him. He faced a bear, and God helped him. In these experiences, his faith grew so he was prepared to face Goliath. You and I can’t face our Goliaths in life without training. That means we have to follow God, have faith in God, trust in God, obey God on a daily basis. That’s what prepares us to face our Goliaths.

Gary Petty

Gary Petty is a 1978 graduate of Ambassador College with a BS in mass communications. He worked for six years in radio in Pennsylvania and Texas. He was ordained a minister in 1984 and has served congregations in Longview and Houston Texas; Rockford, Illinois; Janesville and Beloit, Wisconsin; and San Antonio, Austin and Waco, Texas. He presently pastors United Church of God congregations in Nashville, Murfreesboro and Jackson, Tennessee.
