How to Have a Successful Bible Study: Part 10
When you are reading the Bible be sure to stop and meditate about what you have read. This will help you internalize the message you are reading from the scriptures.

[Darris McNeely] We've been going through a number of points about how to have a successful, profitable Bible study. We're at number 10 here today and we're talking about a very critical matter of how to review, think about and meditate about what you are reading. You know, the Bible is not really difficult to understand and we've talked about different translations and how they make certain passages come alive, putting it into modern English or modern language and that's very helpful to help us to be able to read with a certain level of understanding. But there will be times when we need to stop and review and think deeply about what we are looking at, review and meditate on what we are reading. If we do that we're gonna be more likely to internalize the message that we are reading from scripture.
Psalm 1 talks about this. It starts all of the psalms off with a very important principle that is like this. It says, "Blessed is the man who walks not in the council of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law he meditates day and night" (Psalms 1:1-2) In the Word of God in the Bible, he thinks about it. He meditates on it day and night.
So we've gotta review and meditate thinking about what we are reading and when we do, when we begin to internalize it, it goes on to say that that person who does will be "... like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth his fruit in season whose leaf also shall not wither. And whatever he does he shall prosper."
So think about that. Go back to another daily that we were talking about where I encouraged you to take notes on your Bible study into a notebook. Ask yourself, what did this mean for the original audience? What does it mean for us today? What is God saying to me? How can I apply it to my life? And with prayer and deep reflective thought, it can help us to review and look at what we are reading and internalize it, which is in the end really what we wanna do. Review and meditate, a successful key to Bible study.
