America is in the midst of political conventions. The National Atheist Party wanted their own convention. Is that reasonable?
[Steve Myers] It's the political season in America and Republicans just had their convention. The Democrats are ready to roll, but there's another party that cancelled their convention. The National Atheist Party has cancelled their convention, or at least what they hoped to be a convention. The President of that Atheist party said this, "After this year's amazing reason rally," he said, "It was supposed to be our biggest and best public event." And yet they had to cancel it.
Now it struck me that it's an interesting thing they talked about reason. Well, is it reasonable to be an atheist? You know, when you really look at things sometimes people will say, "Well, religion, you're not a thinking person if you believe in God." Well, you know what? God Himself, Isaiah 1:18, God Himself says, "Come, let's reason together." You see, it is reasonable to believe in God. God is very plain.
In fact, in Psalm 14, maybe I'll write that one down, too. In Psalm 14, right at the beginning of that chapter, it says very clearly, "The fool has said there is no God" (Psalm 14:1). Because they haven't come to God and reasoned together, they haven't looked at the Bible. They haven't seen the logic behind believing in God.
In fact, there is such a powerful point that the Apostle Paul makes in the New Testament. In Ephesians chapter 4, it talks about those who have no reason, they don't understand. And it adds an interesting component to logic. And here's what Paul said, "These people have their understanding darkened." So their reasoning is darkened. Why? "They're alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that's in them because of the blindness of their heart" (Ephesians 4:18).
And you know that makes a very important point that there is reason, there is logic involved, but one aspect that people often leave out is heart. God is working with hearts and minds. We can't separate those two things.
So come to God. Don't doubt that He is. Realize that God impacts us in so many ways as a whole person, the entire person. So God is an amazing God and He says, "Let's reason together."
