"Tell A Lie Long Enough..."

[Darris McNeely] One of the first principles of propaganda is if you tell a lie long enough, people will believe it, the masses will believe it. It is a true statement. It is also sad. A number of years ago in Jordan, I heard a member of the Jordanian senate tell the group that I was with that there had never been a temple, a Jewish temple, on the mountain, the Temple Mount, in Jerusalem. Upon hearing that, I thought, “Now, wait just a minute. That’s just not true. History tells us otherwise.” But it is something that has been told and retold often enough that many people in the world today believe that there was never a Jewish temple on the Mount, especially during the time of Jesus Christ.

Well, you come to Rome and you can find how that statement is refuted. Behind me is the Arch of Titus. It was erected after the Emperor Titus had conquered Jerusalem and destroyed the second temple, the Jewish temple on the Temple Mount, in the year 70 AD. He came back here to Rome, he erected this monument, as many emperors did in those days to commemorate their great triumph.

On the inside of that monument, up in the upper part, there’s a very interesting depiction of the furnishings of the temple – the menorah, the silver trumpets – being carried in that procession here in Rome, during the emperor’s reentry in commemoration, that were taken from that temple in Jerusalem. It’s a world-famous photo that many, many millions of people have seen. It has been here for hundreds and thousands of years, proving that there was a temple, a second temple, in Jerusalem, in that period of time. Just as the history – just as the Bible – tells. Again, people tell a lie long enough, often enough, and people will believe that. Don’t let yourself fall prey to that. Symbols such as this – historical proof such as the Arch of Titus – tell us otherwise and help us not only to validate history, but also to validate the word of God, and ultimately even the truths of God.
