Understanding this can bring us comfort and encouragement during difficult times.
[Steve Myers] When we feel like we're alone or discouraged and there's no one to go ahead of us to help us and guide us, we can turn to the book of Hebrews because there's a unique description of Jesus Christ, our Savior, that Paul gives us in Hebrews 6:20. He describes Jesus Christ as the Forerunner who has entered into God's presence before us.
That word, forerunner, is a unique word. It's the Greek word prodromos. Actually, prodromos is the word there. And it can be translated forerunner, but the meaning behind it is beyond that. Not that someone just went before us, but it takes on a military sense, like a scout, someone who spies out the land to be sure that it's safe, one who makes a way so that, in a sense, he's pioneering so that we can follow safely.
And so to think of it this way, we are not alone. Christ has pioneered the way. He has opened the way into the holy of holies into the presence of God the Father for us, and we can enter in every time we go to God in prayer. And so we have a Savior. And, in fact, this points back to exactly what Christ told the disciples back in John 14, where He said, "I go and prepare a place for you." Christ has prepared that place, and He's looking forward to us all being together for eternity because He is the Forerunner. He made a way. He pioneered the path. He scouted the way so that, now, we can safely follow.
So next time you feel alone, think about Christ. Think about that pioneer who has made that way possible for us because He has prepared a place, and we can look forward to that time that he returns and we can ultimately be together.
That's BT Daily. See you next time.
Who was Jesus? Few will dispute that a man named Jesus lived 2,000 years ago and that He was a great teacher who impacted the world from His time forward.
