[Steve Myers] Have you ever cleaned out a drawer or straightened up a room and thought, There! Finally in order! Only to watch the clutter creep back in.
We know that happens physically, but it happens spiritually as well. Did you know God has a solution?
His master plan for humanity found in His festivals begins with Passover. And Passover reminds us that through Jesus Christ's sacrifice, our sins can be forgiven. We're given a fresh start—a clean slate. But that's not the end of the story. Because even after forgiveness, clutter can creep back in. We still need to change. We still have to deal with the habits, the attitudes, and patterns that pull us away from God.
Now that's where the Feast of Unleavened Bread comes in. This seven-day festival teaches a powerful lesson. Don't just remove sin, replace it with something better. Replace it with a new way of living.
You know, after that first Passover, God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. They left in such a haste there was no time for their bread to rise. So, God commanded them to eat unleavened bread during this festival every year as a lasting reminder that He had set them free—brought them out of slavery.
Now, that points directly to us. Before God called us, we were in a kind of spiritual Egypt, held captive by sin. But through Christ, we can be delivered—not only from sin's penalty, but also from its grip on our lives.
Now that's why leaven during these days represents sin. God reminds us that removing it from our homes pictures something deeper—our desire to remove sin from our hearts and our minds and our lives. But God doesn't stop with just putting things out. He also tells us to put in. The apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 5 that "Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us." And then he said, "Therefore, let us keep the feast with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth."
Now that's the goal—not just getting rid of wrong attitudes, but replacing them—replacing them with sincerity, replacing them with truth, replacing them with righteousness, and most importantly, replacing them with the character of Jesus Christ. Because here's the reality. If you only sweep sin out, but don't fill your life with God's way, that old clutter creeps right back in.
So these days ask a very personal question. Are you just trying to manage sin, or are you allowing God to transform you?
Observing the Feast of Unleavened Bread reminds us that real Christianity goes far beyond just forgiveness. It's about change. It's about growth. It's about becoming a new person through the power of God.
So take the time to really look at your life. Ask God to help you see what needs to go, and what needs to grow. So ask Him for the strength, not just to put out sin, but to replace it with His truth, with His character, and His way of life.
Boy, that is so much more than spring cleaning. That's spiritual renewal.
